Rise in deaths and serious injuries on Devon and Cornwall's roads, say police
The force say they've seen an increase throughout April and May
Devon and Cornwall Police are urging people to take extra care if out on the roads and to look out for others.
The force say throughout April and May, there has been an increase in deaths and serious injuries on roads across the two counties.
Sergeant Owen Messenger says the message is for all road users:
"Probably one of the worst things we have to do as a police officer is to go and knock on a door and tell somebody that a loved one isn't coming home and that they're never going to speak to them again, it's an absolutely horrible job to do.
"Now it's not just car drivers, it's any road user, we've all got a part to play in reducing the number of people that are killed or seriously injured on the roads.
"That could be cyclists, motorcyclists, car drivers, commercial drivers, absolutely anyone that uses the road network. Please just take that little bit more care, take your time.
"The roads are going to get busier over the Spring and the Summer and it is generally local people that are those that are involved in those collisions.
"Please don't put us in the position where we have to go and knock on anymore doors, we really don't want to do anymore of that."
