Restaurant fire at Events Square in Falmouth

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service received multiple 999 calls on Saturday afternoon

Emergency services have spent the afternoon dealing with a fire at a restaurant in Falmouth.

The blaze broke out at The Ranch on Discovery Quay on Saturday 7th May, where black smoke could be seen billowing over the roof.

Staff confirmed the news on their social media pages, saying the site would be closed for the evening.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said Critical Control received a "large volume" of emergency calls.

Police were also scrambled to the scene, where a cordon was put in place.

Posting on social media, eyewitnesses said Events Square was temporarily evacuated.

In a statement released at around 2pm, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “Critical Control have taken a large volume of calls to a fire in a commercial premises in Event Square in Falmouth.

“Four crews from Falmouth, Tolvaddon and Truro are in attendance”.

The fire is understood to have been brought under control and is now mostly out, with crews continuing to check for hotspots.
