People living close to ongoing roadworks on Cornwall's A30 say they are 'relieved' the upgraded road is set to reopen.

As part of National Highways’ A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross road upgrade, the road has been closed since 8pm on Friday 21st June until 6am on Monday 24th June for the final full weekend closure.

The government-owned company has been gradually opening all junctions and all lanes of the new A30 dual carriageway today (Monday).

Steve, a resident in Zelah, which is just outside the 'major' three-year roadworks, said: "It's obviously a necessary evil.

"There's been quite a lot of disruption but obviously the infrastructure in Cornwall will benefit from the dual going all the way down.

"We know it's needed but it'll be a relief when it's all finished.

"It's always been a rat run from people getting to Newquay to Truro but obviously with the road temporarily being opened and closed there's been lots of variability.

"Hopefully in the long-run, less people will need to use this road and it'll be quieter for kids and pets."

Following the opening of the new A30, there is still work to do on local roads and structures to close down the site and fully complete the project.

Further planned closures

Starting at 9am on Monday 24 June, there will be a full 24/7 closure of the B3277 link road from Chiverton Junction to the Services roundabout until Friday 12 July.

Traffic heading from the A30 to St Agnes will be diverted along the A30 to Scorrier junction then through Blackwater, before re-joining the B3277 at the Services roundabout (and vice versa).
