Police are investigating reports of a burglary and sexual assault in a village in east Cornwall.

A man allegedly broke into a home in Gunnislake while a woman was inside.

Officers say the attacker fled in the early hours of Saturday morning (23rd October), after she resisted.

Devon and Cornwall Police say the woman is being supported by specialist officers.

On Sunday, they confirmed a man in his 20s had been arrested and released on bail, adding that enquiries were ongoing.

The force said: "Police investigating a report of burglary and sexual assault at an address in the Gunnislake area are appealing for information.

"An adult female was inside her home when a male entered the property between midnight and 2.10am on Saturday 23rd October.

"The female resisted the suspect, who fled the scene. She is being supported by specialist officers.

"Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time.

"A man aged in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and sexual assault. He has been released on police bail as enquiries continue".
