People in Cornwall asked to help save 500 hens from slaughter by giving them new homes
Adoption days are being held across the Duchy, Devon and Somerset over the coming weekend
An appeal has been issued to help save over 500 hens from slaughter across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.
The British Hen Welfare Trust is holding special adoption and rehoming days over the coming weekend.
They include one in Liskeard and two in Devon, for birds previously kept in cages.
The charity says they will rehome more hens than any other weekend this year so far, with 658 coming to the South West alone!
The British Hen Welfare Trust says the hens make great pets and all they want is to go home with a happy family.
"It's that time of the week when the hens we will be collecting this weekend are getting ready for their journeys all over the country.
"Some are going all the way to Scotland, some are making their way south to Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, and some are travelling East to Essex, Suffolk, Milton Keynes and Cambridge!
"They will be getting ready to charm their new humans with their floppy little combs and their soppy faces.
"All they want to do is be able to go home with a happy family! What this means is they NEED you to pick up the phone and adopt them!".
