Redruth United Football Club has been vandalised and has suffered tens of thousands of pounds' worth of damage.

The club has lost everything in the clubhouse, including youth team goals, and the pitch has been damaged too.

The changing rooms building has been flooded by water, causing it to leak through the ceilings and into the electrics.

Videos shared on social media show the severity of the damage which was caused at the end of last week.

The local community is clubbing together to help the team rebuild and a fundraising page has been launched.

The aim was to raise £1,000 to help them out, but it has smashed its target and is already at over £8,000.

You can find the Just Giving page here.

"You feel so disappointed for the community and the town itself, our young players, where they've had the excitement of things opening up again and being able to see their friends, and of course that's now been taken away from them again.

"I work in a school myself and all the extracurricular and fun activities that they do is so important for their mental health, and for the parents as well to ensure their young people are keeping busy. It's been a good community effort to get the club up and rolling again so for this to happen is really difficult for us and for them especially.

"At this stage it's not about the money, it's about the community pulling together, and we've had plumbers and electricians and roofers come to us willing to help us out free of charge, which is such an incredible gesture."

Dan Horler, Captain and Coach

"The plan now is to start clearing the site of all the remaining rubbish and green waste left, clean off graffiti, remove water damaged items and general tidying.

"We are going to do this clear up at 6:30pm on Tuesday 27th July. Thanks to Biffa who are kindly going to provide a skip. If you can help please message the club via fb messenger so we can coordinate numbers and give you some more detail.

"If anyone can provide some ppe such as gloves for the volunteers that would be really helpful.

"We have been overwhelmed by the kind messages and offers of help, thanks to you all."
