As of 11am on Sunday, firefighters had managed to bring the blaze under control but crews expected to remain at the scene for most of the day.

"When the initial crews turned up they were faced with a fully-developed fire.

"The single-storey part of the property is completely destroyed but the initial actions by those crews, the aggressive fire-fighting tactics that they put in place, stopped that fire spreading to the larger part of the building.

"I want to just thank my initial crews really, for their hard work and their continued hard work at what is a very challenging incident.

"We've got crews from as far as St Just, Falmouth Tolvaddon and we've got an ARP (aerial ladder platform) from Newquay.

"We'll be here ensuring that there is no fire spread, putting out all the hotspots, turning over and then there'll be a fire investigation".

Emergency services had advised drivers to avoid the area around Blowinghouse Hill.

The road was closed between the church and the roundabout at the junction for the A3047 but has since reopened.
