Cornwall pub set to lose £30,000 due to G7 summit
The Badgers Inn say customers can't reach them because Lelant is closed
A pub near to where the G7 is taking place is set to lose £30,000 because of the summit.
The Badgers Inn in Lelant, down the road from Carbis Bay, says its losing trade because the village has been shut off from visitors.
This morning a "ring of steel" went up around key locations in St Ives as security was ramped up ahead of the summit.
Residents and businesses have to go through ID check points to drive to Carbis Bay and the A3074 is closed for the next 4 days.
The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, and his wife Carrie Symonds arrived in Cornwall yesterday, as did US President Joe Biden.
The landlord of The Badgers Inn, Bertie Bodmer, told us they are going to lose lots of trade and they won't receive compensation.
"We would have served 450 people this coming Sunday and we've got 20 people booked in.
"Nobody can get to us.
"In total, over the eight day period, we stand to lose £30,000 worth of business and there is no compensation because they haven't actually closed us - they've just closed the village."
Bertie said Lelant is completely closed:
"The village has been completely blocked off.
"The coastal path access has already been closed, the train station access at the bottom of the road has been closed and the road through the village will be closed.
"With signs up everywhere saying 'avoid the area' since last weekend."
