It is being claimed that President Biden might not come to Cornwall for the G7 summit because of Covid.

The White House has reportedly told The Telegraph that's "certainly a possibility".

It's understood the decision will depend on whether restrictions are lifted, but that no decision has been made yet.

Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, is quoted as saying: "In terms of whether or not he will travel, we haven't made a determination on that at this point.

"It will be related to Covid restrictions and the advice of our health and medical team, and I expect as we get closer we'll have more of an update".

She added: "We'll evaluate as we get closer. There's certainly a possibility, but we're several months away".

What do we know about the G7 so far?

The G7 is meant to be Joe Biden's first official visit to the UK as US President, just five months after being sworn in.

The even is the only forum where leaders of the world's most influential and open societies and advanced economies are brought together for close-knit discussions.

That includes the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the US, as well as invited leaders from Australia, India, and South Korea.

The G7 will host world leaders at the Carbis Bay Estate, with neighbouring St Ives and other sites in Cornwall, such as Falmouth, hosting international delegates and media.

It will be held from the 11th to the 13th June, 2021.

Speaking at a virtual meeting ahead of the summit, the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, described Carbis Bay as "one of the pearls of the Cornish riviera".

"I want you to know that we want more than anything to ensure that the next time we all meet, it will be in person at beautiful Carbis Bay, one of the pearls of the Cornish riviera".
