A popular ice cream shop has applied for a street trading licence to run an ice cream bike in Penzance.
Jelbert's Ice Cream, based in Newlyn, has applied to Cornwall Council for a licence to start selling their sweet treats from Market Street in Penzance.
Under the application the shop wants to have a bike in the town from May to October operating Tuesday to Saturday from Noon to 3pm, although not when it's raining.
The company wants to have the bike in place close to the entrance of Lloyds Bank to sell ice cream in cones or in tubs.
In its application the company states: "Many years ago our company had an ice cream bike in this area and it served the town well.
"We believe that an ice cream bike would be a great asset to the town and would have a positive impact. We operate in a sustainable manner and would not cause any noise or air pollution to the street as the bike is pedal powered.
"Our tubs and spoons are biodegradable and plant based. We are plastic free in line with the Plastic free Penzance scheme.
"We are a local business who have operated locally for many years. If successful we believe this will create two part time jobs for local personnel.
"There are no ice cream sellers at this side of the town. Given the nature of the business we would not propose to trade during rainy days. We work in accordance with Covid guidelines".
