A new pop-up Tesco has appeared on the edge of a children's play park in Carbis Bay ahead of the G7 Summit.

The temporary kiosk is already in place in Richmond Park.

Supermarket bosses say it will sell essential items for police officers working at the world leaders' event.

However there is anger from locals, who say they were not properly informed about the plans before the pop-up shop was installed.

Mayor of St Ives, Kirsty Arthur, said: "I'm really glad that the needs of the police and security teams are being prioritised before the event, many of them will be working very long hours and we should be doing all we can to support them.

"I have concerns around the delay in cascading these communications to the residents of Carbis Bay who use the park and are already being impacted so greatly.

"I'm sure that no one would object to the plans, they just ask that we are kept informed.

"Richmond Park is particularly close to my heart as I am leading plans to have it regenerated into a better used community space, so I am keen that we can promote this space and get funding so that we can give the people of Carbis Bay something wonderful after all this is over".

A spokesperson for Tesco said: "The police asked us for assistance in providing a store selling essential items for officers working at the G7 Summit.

"We were delighted to help and will be providing a temporary Tesco kiosk for officers working in Carbis Bay during the Summit weekend".
