Police have identified a body found on a beach in south east Cornwall

Officers have issued an update after the discovery just before Christmas

Police say they have identified a body found on a beach in south east Cornwall just two days before Christmas.

A member of the public made the discovery at Kingsand Beach on Thursday 23rd December and police and coastguard crews attended the scene.

Officers were working to identify the person and said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

They have now confirmed that formal identification has taken place and the family of missing John Harrison have been told about the development.

The 52-year-old from Crediton, Devon, was reported missing on Sunday 17th October 2021.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The body of a man was located on Kingsand beach, Torpoint, on Thursday 23rd December.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

"Formal identification has taken place.

"The family of John Harrison, 52, from Crediton, who was reported missing on Sunday 17 October, have been made aware."
