Police patrols at Cornish beach after benches set on fire and broken glass left in sand

Officers say it happened on Saturday night

Police are stepping up patrols at a beach on the south coast of Cornwall following a number of late night criminal acts.

Officers say benches were set on fire, boat straps were damaged and broken glass was left in the sand on Polkerris beach.

It happened on Saturday night and a large group was spotted on the beach the same evening.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact local officers.

"On Saturday 24th April sometime between 9pm and midnight a number of criminal acts were committed down at Polkerris Beach.

"Benches were used to start fires, broken glass was left in the sand and boat straps were removed/damaged.

"A large group was spotted at the beach on the same evening.

"We will be stepping up patrols to put a stop to this.

"If you have any information for us or wish to report an incident/crime please make contact with us as soon as you can."
