Biker who died in crash near St Ives is named by police

The Old Coach Road was closed for nine hours while investigators went over the scene

A biker who died in a crash near St Ives has been named by police.

A car and a motorbike collided on the Old Coach Road on Tuesday evening.

Tragically 61-year-old local Paul Gray lost his life at the scene.

The road was closed for nine hours while investigators went over the scene.

Anyone who saw what happened, or who has dashcam footage, is asked to contact officers.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "A motorbike rider who died in a collision at St Ives on Tuesday 7 September has been named as 61-year-old Paul Gray.

"Police investigating the collision are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

"Officers were called just after 5.30pm following the collision between a Suzuki GSXR motorcycle and a Daewoo Matiz on Old Coach Road.

"Mr Gray, from the St Ives area, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The occupants of the car were not injured.

"Old Coach Road was closed for nine hours while the scene was examined by a specialist forensic collision investigator.

"Officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for witnesses. They would also like to hear from any motorists who may have relevant dash cam footage."
