Police investigate huge fire that tore through derelict farmhouse in Camborne

An investigation into a huge fire at a derelict farmhouse in Camborne has been handed over to police.

Flames tore through the building on Church View Road on Monday afternoon (1st August).

Drivers in the area said the smoke was so thick, their fog lights came on.

Firefighters from across west Cornwall were scrambled at around 4.45pm, following multiple 999 calls.

Six appliances, two Aerial Ladder Platforms and an Incident Command Unit were at the scene, along with an Environmental Support Vehicle.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said crews were battling the blaze for over six hours.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service said: "Multiple resources are currently in attendance at a derelict building fire in Church View Road, Camborne following multiple 999 calls being made, starting at 16:42pm.

"In total, 4 Appliances, 3 Officers, 1 Incident Command Unit, 1 Operational Support Vehicle and an L4P are assigned to this incident.

"On arrival, crews confirmed a large detached farmhouse approximately 10 metres by 8 metres well alight.

"Update 18:00: "This is now Make Pumps 6. In addition to the above, another two appliances, an environmental support vehicle and another L4P are not assigned to this incident. Crews are using hose reel and main jets to extinguish the fire.

"Please be aware that Church View Road has been closed by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service. Please avoid the area and make alternate routes where possible.

"Update 19:12: Crews are damping down hotspots and the incident has begun to downscale as appliances return to their home stations.

"Update 2230: "All appliance are now back at their home stations. The incident has been handed over to the police".
