Road in centre of St Austell shut due to 'police incident'

A road in St Austell has been closed because of a police incident.

Officers and paramedics were called to High Cross Street early on Wednesday morning amid concerns for a man's welfare.

Police said: "Police and paramedics were called to High Cross Street, St Austell, at around 5.50am on Wednesday 16th June after concern was expressed for the welfare of a man.

"A road closure is in place in the area and the incident is ongoing. No further details are available at this time.

"An update will be issued in due course".

Devon & Cornwall Police have since confirmed a man in his 40s has been found dead: Read more.

The road remains closed in both directions but traffic is said to be coping well.

"High Cross Street in both directions closed due to police incident between Church Street and Kings Avenue.

"Traffic is coping well".
