A road in Redruth was closed following reports of a man with a plank of wood who was acting suspiciously.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the East End area just after midday on Friday (27th August).

A man was located in the Close Hill area and has been detained.

Officers have confirmed that he has been taken to hospital to be checked over.

The road was closed due to the 'police incident' but has since reopened.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We received a report of a man in possession of a plank of wood acting suspiciously in the East End area of Redruth at around 12.10pm.

"Officers have attended and a male was located in the Close Hill area and detained.

"Ambulance is also at the scene and a road closure is in place."

There was said to be slow traffic in the area due to the road closure.

At the time, Inrix Traffic and Travel said: "Close Hill in both directions closed, slow traffic due to police incident between Murdoch Close and A3047 (Avers Roundabout)."

It has been confirmed that the road has now reopened in both directions and traffic has returned to normal.
