'Police incident' closes stretch of A30 near Penzance

Officers have since confirmed that a man has been taken to hospital

A stretch of the A30 near Penzance, closed because of a police incident, has now reopened.

In a brief statement, officers said: "Police were called at around 1.25pm today to Eastern Way, Penzance, following reports of concern for the welfare of a man. The matter remains ongoing and the road is closed at this time".

Listeners told us the air ambulance was spotted landing at the heliport near McDonalds.

Police have since confirmed a man has been taken to hospital and the road has reopened.

Devon & Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 1.25pm on Thursday 1 September to Eastern Way, Penzance, following reports of concern for the welfare of a man who was on the wrong side of the railings of an overbridge.

"It was further reported that he had fallen from the bridge.

"The man sustained leg injuries and has been taken to hospital.

"The road reopened around 2.20pm".

Inrix Traffic and Travel said: "Very slow traffic due to earlier police incident on A30 in both directions from Jelbert Way (Chy-An-Mor roundabout, Gulval) to A394 (Newtown roundabout, Longrock). Congestion to routes through Longrock. All lanes have been re-opened".
