Police appeal following death of young man after M5 collision in Devon

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the area between J28 and J29 on Sunday night

Police have confirmed the death of young man following a collision on the M5 in Devon.

Officers were called to the stretch between J28 and J29 on Sunday night (August 29th) after reports of someone in the carriageway.

A further report said that a collision had taken place involving a person and a car.

Emergency services were scrambled at around 8.45pm, including the air ambulance.

Tragically, a man in his 30s was confirmed dead at the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

"Police were called at 8.45pm on Sunday 29 August to the M5 between junction 28-29 southbound following reports of concern for the welfare of a person seen in the carriageway.

"It was further reported that a collision had taken place involving the person and a car.

Emergency services including the air ambulance attended there scene where a man, in his 30s, was confirmed deceased a short time later. His next of kin have been informed.

"The motorway was closed southbound at the scene to allow for emergency services to attend and to carry out enquiries at the scene. The road was reopened during the early hours of Monday 30th August.

"Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to contact police on 101 quoting log 1046 29/08/21".
