Plymouth naval officer jailed for series of sexual assaults against a child

He has been sentenced to 11 years behind bars

A naval officer from Plymouth has been jailed for a series of sexual assaults against a child and possession of indecent images.

Philip Mitchell, who was based at HMS Drake, pleaded guilty to ten charges on the 11th March 2021.

All the offences occurred in 2019.

The 32-year-old, from Keyham in Plymouth, was sentenced at Truro Crown Court today (Wednesday 23rd June) to 11 years behind bars.

“Philip Mitchell carried out a series of sexual assaults on a young child.

“The victim has shown immense courage and I would like to commend her bravery throughout the whole investigation”.
