There seems to be a bit of a mystery going on in Penzance after a rather unusual theft.

A big plant pot was stolen from outside somebody's home at night, but ÂŁ15 cash and a card explaining they were sorry were left behind instead.

The planter on the window where it was taken from

It happened in a residential street overnight on Sunday, with the homeowner Holly saying the large planter was outside her living room window, which faces onto the street.

She'd gone to bed at around 9.15pm that night and hadn't noticed anything unusual outside the window.

But when she got up on Monday morning and was getting her five-year-old daughter ready for school at around 8am she noticed a card was sticking out of the letter box.

The card that was left in its place

The card had Tinkerbell on the front, and contained money as well as a note from a mystery culprit explaining that they had taken the pot.

It read: "Hello whoever you are. Sorry we are in real need of a flower pot... we saw yours and have to take it but we are leaving ÂŁ15. Hope that will cover your cost. Sorry for the inconvenience. Hugs and Kisses."

And on the other side it read: "Stay happy and blessed always."

The note from the mystery culprit

Holly told us how she was 'gobsmacked but gutted' that the large, terracotta planter had been taken as it has sentimental value. It was given to her by her 80-year-old auntie who had it for years in her garden. She gifted it to Holly and they planted it up together.

Holly said her daughter was also upset that it has been taken and they've put a note in its place, asking for it to be returned.

She told us: "It would mean the world to me and my little girl if we got it back, so we're just keeping our fingers crossed."

Holly also posted the mystery onto several local Facebook groups, which has caused quite a stir.
