A person has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a house fire broke out in Hayle.

Emergency services were called just before 9am this morning (17th June) and road closures were put in place.

Fire crews used jets to tackle the blaze and officers say a second person was uninjured.

Officials say the cause is unknown and an investigation will be carried out.

A Devon & Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to reports of a house fire in Hayle at around 8.50am today Friday 17th June.

"Local road closures were put in place to allow the fire service to tackle the blaze and have since been lifted.

"One person sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital for treatment.

"A second person was uninjured.

"The cause of the fire is unknown and enquiries will be carried out."

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service was urging nearby residents to close doors and windows because of the smoke.

At the time, a spokesperson said: "Cornwall Fire and Rescue are currently dealing with a domestic property fire in the Hayle area. The service has six fire engines and multiple specialist appliances in attendance dealing with the incident.

"Firefighters confirmed a two storey building, fully involved in fire. The incident ground has been sectorised, with four breathing apparatus, two fire fighting jets and two hose reels in use.

"Please avoid this area if possible and if anyone is affected by smoke, close windows and doors. The fire service will remain on scene until further notice."
