Thousands will come together for energetic parades in Penzance later, for the first in-person Mazey Day since the Pandemic.

The town will be buzzing with colour and costumes on Saturday 25th June for the final part of the Golowan Festival celebrations, which took place virtually for 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic.

Organiser Alan Shepherd told us it's good to be back: "You can taste the sense of community because so many local people, so many schools and local organisations get involved.

"The atmosphere, no matter the weather, will be amazing".

Events have already started for the 'Back to the Future'-themed Golowan Festival this year, with bands playing through the streets.

Alan continued: "The theme allows people to look back, it allows people to look back, it allows them to look back at previous festivals, look back at memories, to look forward. What might our world look like what might our town look like in the future?"

It is expected around 400,000 people could attend over the entire weekend, after previous Mazey Day celebrations attracted huge crowds to the town.

Following the fireworks on Mazey Eve, Saturday's first procession will start at 10am from St John's Hall, with parades continuing through the day until after 4.45pm.

The entertainment will finish with synchronised swimming in the Jubilee Pool on Sunday.

What is Mazey Day?

Mazey Day is the final part of the Golowan Festival celebrations taking place which includes fireworks, concerts, performances, parades and displays for the seven days.

Over the week, around 60 bands and solo performers will have performed through the town with theatre, dance, song, and children’s entertainment.

You can read more about the Mazey celebrations on the Golowan Festival's official website.
