Pedestrian dies after collision on main road through Cornish village

A pedestrian has died after a crash on the main road through a village in east Cornwall.

The man was caught in a collision with a car at St Ann's Chapel near Gunnislake.

It happened on Tuesday night (14th September) and closed the A390 until the next day.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, just before 11pm, to come forward.

They have confirmed a man in his 80s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care.

On Wednesday evening, Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the A390 in St Ann's Chapel, Gunnislake, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

"Police were called to reports of a collision involving a red Renault Scenic and a pedestrian at around 10.45pm on Tuesday 14th September.

"As a result of the collision the male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Local police as well as officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team attended and carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

"The road was re-opened at around 6.40am on Wednesday 15th September.

"A man in his 80s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and is currently in custody.
