Teenager and four vehicles involved in crashes on A38 in Plymouth

The road was closed and there were long delays in the area

A 15 year old boy from Plymouth has suffered serious injuries after being involved in a collision with a car.

A further two cars and a motorbike then also crashed on the A38 during the morning rush hour on Wednesday.

The teenager was taken to Derriford Hospital, along with a biker who suffered an arm injury.

It happened on the westbound carriageway near the Eggbuckland overbridge and the road has been closed.

There was heavy traffic in the area with queues as far back as the Marsh Mills area.

It is affected anyone heading towards Plymouth and drivers were urged to avoid the area where possible.

Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to contact police.

"Police and ambulance called at 7am today 9th September following a serious collision on the A38 in Plymouth.

"A male pedestrian was in collision with a car on the westbound carriageway near Eggbuckland overbridge. A further two cars and a motorcycle were then involved in the collision.

"The male pedestrian has sustained potentially serious injuries and is being treated by paramedics.

"The motorcyclist and another driver have also sustained injuries, the severity of which is not yet known.

"The road is blocked with traffic queues reported back to Marsh Mills. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible. Traffic is being diverted off the A38 at Leigham."
