It comes after a giant blaze broke out on Dartmoor on Thursday evening, with the flames so big they could be seen from Launceston and Saltash.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that the blaze has now been extinguished, after almost 18 hours.

Crews say it was the right decision to stand back and monitor the huge fire - rather than putting firefighters lives’ at risk by trying to put it out.

The fire is no longer burning but a roughly three mile stretch of moorland - which is hard to reach - near Peter Tavey outside Tavistock, remains charred.

Investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
