Drivers are being urged to plan ahead of a weekend closure of part of the A390 in Cornwall.

The northern section of the road will be shut between the Chiverton Interchange and Penstraze Lane from 7.00pm today (Friday 16 February) until 6.00am on Monday 19 February.

It's so resurfacing works can be carried out as part of National Highways' A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross scheme.

The A30 between Carland Cross and Scorrier will remain open during the weekend and the diversion route for access will be via the A390, A39, A393 and the A3047.

Drivers are advised to follow the diversion routes and not to use local roads through villages that are less able to accommodate additional traffic.

If travelling to Truro or the Royal Cornwall Hospital from the east, drivers should take the A39 at Carland Cross.

Access will be maintained via Penstraze Lane for emergency services and key bus routes only, as well as for properties and businesses within the closure.

Neil Winter, National Highways’ Senior Project Manager for the A30 scheme, said earlier this month: "We appreciate the closures will have an impact on people’s journeys, but after this latest phase of work, motorists will only see a slight difference at Trevalso.

"We advise people to plan ahead, follow the diversion routes and not use local roads, and allow a little extra time for their journeys, and in the meantime we thank people for their patience as we move towards completing this massive road upgrade for Cornwall."

The new A30 dual carriageway is scheduled to be opened at the end of this winter.
