Pizza takeaway and delivery company Papa John’s has applied for planning permission to open its first outlet in Cornwall.

The company has submitted plans to Cornwall Council to turn a former shop in Newquay into a new takeaway.

The company, which was founded in the USA, has more than 450 outlets in the UK, but the nearest to Cornwall is currently in Plymouth. In total the company has more than 5,500 outlets worldwide in 49 countries.

Under the plans submitted to the council the company is looking to open its first Cornish outlet in East Street, Newquay, offering takeaway and delivery pizza service.

The popular pizza chain wants to convert a shop in East Street which is adjacent to Tesco Express. The current unit is vacant and the applicants say they want to bring it back into use.

In the application it is highlighted that there is pedestrian access to the store from East Street and that there is access off Grosvenor Avenue for vehicles. It states that there is some on-street parking available in East Street and the nearest public car park is the Manor Car Park, a five-minute walk away.

The new takeaway is planning to open from 11am to 11pm Sundays to Thursdays and from 11am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
