Cornwall recorded over 1,050 new cases of coronavirus in just 24 hours
The case rate in some parts of the Duchy has risen to more than 1,500 per 100,000 people

The number of coronavirus cases in Cornwall increased by 1,067 in the last 24 hours, official figures show.
A total of 86,220 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Cornwall when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on January 4th (Tuesday), up from 85,153 on Monday.
Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 218,705 over the period, to 13,641,520 – though the number of newly-reported cases for Northern Ireland covers a four-day period, and for Wales a two-day period.
Latest weekly figures show Cornwall recorded 5,144 new cases in the seven days to Thursday 30th December, giving the Duchy a case rate of 893.8 per 100,000 people.
In some areas that figure is well over 1,000 per 100,00 people, including parts of Bude and Liskeard at over 1,500, Newquay West and East at over 1,300, and Hayle at over 1,200. Torpoint recorded the highest rate per 100,000 people, at 1983.1.
Boris Johnson has decided to stick with 'Plan B' restrictions, despite a rise in staff absences across the public sector.
Several NHS trusts have declared a 'critical incident', including Plymouth's Derriford Hospital.
However, there were no new coronavirus deaths recorded in the latest 24-hour period in Cornwall.
The dashboard shows 634 people had died in the area by January 4 (Tuesday) – which was unchanged from Monday.
It means there have been five deaths in the past week, which is an increase on three the previous week.
They were among 8,313 deaths recorded across the South West.
The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Cornwall.
Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death, so some areas might see their figures revised down.
The figures also show that four in five people in Cornwall have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.
The latest figures show 429,287 people had received both jabs by January 3 (Monday) – 81% of those aged 12 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.
Across England, 82% of people aged 12 and above had received a second dose of the jab.
Unlike at local level, the national rate was calculated using mid-2020 population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
