We can reveal that £54,000 worth of gifts have been donated to our Mission Christmas Toy Appeal in Cornwall.

We launched the appeal to help local charities in the Duchy provide presents for disadvantaged children.

Now thousands of children living in poverty across Cornwall will receive an extra bit of Christmas cheer this year, thanks to our listeners.

Once again you have gone above and beyond, despite the pandemic, to help us make sure no child wakes up on Christmas morning without a gift.

We have been able to help thousands of children, including through the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust, Children's Hospice South West Little Harbour, Ellies Haven, The Dracaena Centre, Store House Community Hub, DISC Newquay, Live West, CRP Food Bank, and the The Salvation Army in St Ives.

Over £54,000 worth of presents have now been delivered in time for the big day.

One of the charities helped through the 2020 Mission Christmas Toy Appeal is Ellie's Haven, based near Looe, which provides holidays to families caring for children with long term and life limiting medical conditions and disabilities.

"We founded the charity through our own two children, who sadly passed away, and this is our way of just getting involved to try and support other families through difficult times.

"Some of these children are extremely ill. so when they're having a tough year through medical procedures or just long periods of illness, then it's nice for the children to receive a little gift of some description, because the families haven't got the money in a lot of cases."

"Oh my gosh, we are completely blown away, we just can't imagine the joy and the blessing that this is going to bring to so many families, we are just overwhelmed, it makes such a difference and the generosity has been overwhelming, thank you."

Ellen Brittain, from the Store House Community Hub in Newquay

"It's going to make a massive difference for our children, we work with a range of children with different disabilities and vulnerabilities, some of those children come from backgrounds where they won't be receiving toys this Christmas, so thank you."
