The Northern Lights have been spotted in Cornwall's skies once again.

The colourful light display is rarely seen as far south as the Duchy, but it's the third time this year that they've made an appearance.

A number of people have shared their photos online, with sightings in Port Isaac, Stithians and Portreath.

What causes the Northern Lights?

The Met Office said : "They occur as a consequence of solar activity and result from collisions of charged particles in the solar wind colliding with molecules in the Earth's upper atmosphere."

The Northern Lights - also known as aurora borealis - appear as large areas of colour, including pale green, pink, shades of red, yellow, blue and violet in the direction due north.
