At 3pm, the zoo issued an update on the issues they are facing and when they will be resolved.

In a statement, they said: "We made the decision to close at midday today, 16 August, due to an issue with a South West Water sewage pipe situated on-site.

"We are working with South West Water to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and are taking every precaution to keep our staff and animals safe.

"All visitors on-site at the time, along with pre-purchased ticket-holders affected by the closure, are being given the option to reschedule their visit or receive a full refund.

"We intend to reopen again soon and look forward to welcoming visitors back on site. We will provide further updates on our website and social media channels".
