Newquay RNLI volunteer recognised for 40 years of service
Agnes Clemens has been described as a "great ambassador" for the lifesaving charity
The RNLI has recognised one of Newquay’s stalwart fundraising volunteers for 40 years of service.
Agnes Clemens was recently presented with the charity's 40-year service award by Community Manager, Andy Bramwell.
Richard Clemens, Agnes’ late husband came from a long line of Newquay Lifeboat volunteers, his own father was bowman on the James Stevens No 5 which was wrecked in 1917.
In 1979, Richard became involved in the local committee and had various roles over the following years including Newquay Lifeboat President. It was of course inevitable that Agnes was soon asked to join Newquay Ladies Lifeboat Guild.
Agnes joined the RNLI as a volunteer back in 1981 and took an active part in fundraising events, including coffee mornings, carnival entries and concerts.
She is a regular volunteer in the lifeboat shop and is looking forward to this summer when she will be back on duty. The Clemens family tradition continues with Agnes’ daughter and grandson who also regularly volunteer at the lifeboat station and shop.
Andy Bramwell said: "I was honoured to present Agnes with her 40-year award on behalf of the RNLI. She’s a great ambassador for Newquay lifeboat and is still going strong. I’ll look forward to seeing her at Lifeboat Day this summer."
