The cast of the new Fisherman's Friends film have graced the red carpet in Cornwall.

Newquay's Lighthouse Cinema hosted the sequel's premiere on Tuesday night, with the real Fisherman's Friends singing a few sea shanties to get things started!

We caught up with some of the stars ahead of the screening, including James Purefoy who plays Jim.

He said: "Cornwall is a glorious county. I come from the South West, I've been on holiday here many, many times. It means a lot for me to get our voices and our Westcountry folk up here on the screen in a big budget film because we don't see it very often".

He added that filming towards the end of the pandemic had its benefits, in terms of showing off the Duchy: "We arrived down here three weeks before lockdown was lifted and there were a lot of scenes that we couldn't actually shoot in the places we wanted to shoot, like in the pub or in people's houses or in their front rooms, whatever - so those scenes had to be taken up onto the cliff tops and the beaches".

We also spoke with Irish singer Imelda May, AKA Aubrey Flynn, who admitted to falling in love with Cornwall during filming.

She said: "The film is a love story to Cornwall. It's such a beautiful place and we got to see it during lockdown so there was no tourists or anything like that; it was magical.

"A lot of the Fisherman's Friends - some of them were in the movie. I got to sing with them on the pier in the evenings because we were in our own little bubble. Because of lockdown we were all sticking together but it was magical".
