New Covid-19 cases in Cornwall and Scilly rise by over 100 for EIGHTH day running
Latest figures from Public Health England show 161 were recorded in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning (30th June)
The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly increased by 161 in the last 24 hours, official figures show.
Public Health England figures show that 16,869 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Wednesday (June 30th) in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, up from 16,708 the same time on Tuesday.
That is the eighth day in a row that the total number of new cases increased by more than 100.
The health body recently changed the way it records the figures.
Cases identified through a positive lateral flow test - those which can deliver results within half an hour - will no longer be counted if the person then takes a PCR test, which is sent to a lab to be checked, and receives a negative result within three days.
These cases are now being removed daily.

In the seven days to Friday 25th June, Cornwall recorded 880 new cases of coronavirus.
Cumulatively, Cornwall and Devon have recorded the highest number of new coronavirus cases in a week since mid-January, at over 1,800.
The rate of infection in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly now stands at 2,950 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 7,416.
Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 26,068 over the period, to 4,800,907.
Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly's cases were among the 242,193 recorded across the South West, a figure which rose by 1,615 over the period.
Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
