A £145,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund will go towards the construction of a "state-of-the-art" skate park in Falmouth.
The Town Council are "thrilled" by the news - and say it marks a "significant milestone" in their efforts to enhance recreational opportunities for young people.
The grant will create a safe and enjoyable space for skateboarders, scooters, roller-skaters, rollerbladers and other wheeled sports users of all ages.
Mayor of Falmouth Kirstie Edwards said: "This final piece of funding is a game-changer for the Falmouth Skate Park project.
"The project is a community-driven initiative that has been over 20 years in the offing and has involved over 10 years of fundraising. The National Lottery's contribution will finally allow us to make it a reality.
"It not only underscores the importance of investing in our young people but also highlights the positive impact that National Lottery players has on communities across the country."
With the final funding now secured, Falmouth Town Council is poised to move forward with the construction of the skate park, anticipating its completion in Summer 2024.
Ground works have already been completed on the site, which is sited next to the Dracaena Community Centre and a design commissioned from Skate Park building specialists, Maverick, who are due to start on the build in the Spring.
The Mayor added: "We are thrilled about the prospects that the upcoming skate park holds for our community.
"It promises to become a vibrant hub for entertainment, artistic expression, and healthy activities, offering our young (and young at heart) residents a much-needed recreational space.
"We express our sincere gratitude to The National Lottery for recognising the significance of this initiative and contributing to its success.
"Once the Skatepark is built, we are planning on holiday a 'Skate Jam' event, and we are keen that this be shaped by the young people of Falmouth.
"If you know of any young people in Falmouth who would like to get involved and/or any adults who might like to help with coaching for example, please do get in touch."
