Man paints heartwarming mural to thank Cornwall's key workers and the NHS
The artwork in Bodmin includes a nod to Captain Sir Tom Moore, with his words 'tomorrow will be a good day' over the St Piran's flag
A mural has appeared in Bodmin - thanking Cornwall's key workers and the NHS.
It features a rainbow, a red heart and a nurse wearing a face mask and Wonderwoman crown.
There is also a nod to Captain Sir Tom Moore, with his words 'tomorrow will be a good day' over the St Piran's flag.
It was designed and painted by local Harry Maddox, who owns Avalon Signs and Graphics, had been wanted to produce a tribute since the pandemic began.
He has said he sees this as a thank-you from the people of Bodmin to everyone who has kept us going during lockdown!
Sharing the photos on FacebooK, Harry revealed he has lost three friends to coronavirus and was glad to get the go ahead for the mural.
"It was exactly 12 months ago and I was keeping up with the news and I knew then that things were a lot worse than most people thought.
"I wanted to do something to honour the NHS so I got in contact with 2 other sand artists. The plan was to create a massive sand drawing, 200ft x 200ft.
"The draft design was done, we just needed to set a day, then lockdown, we couldn't even go to the beach let alone spend 4 hours drawing on it so the plan got shelved.
"Fast forward to November when I did the Remembrance mural and the Beast - that was when I decided to modify the design and do something a little more permanent.
"I knew which wall it needed to be on but trying to get the relevant permission has taken a little longer than I would have liked and I'm losing friends due to this wretched disease faster than any person should. I have lost count but it is 3 good friend in January alone.
"I didn't hang around when I got the go ahead. I drafted in my 2 daughters and together we created this in 14 hours.
"The people of Bodmin seem to like it which is good, but I see this as a thank you from the people of Bodmin to everyone that has kept the shops open, the parcels delivered, the bins emptied and everyone else that has kept us going over the last year, as well as the NHS. Thank you. H".
