A Cornish MP is asking for a meeting with police to help tackle crime and antisocial behaviour in Truro.

It comes after a man was assaulted in the underpass at Furniss Island on Wednesday night.

Cherilyn Mackrory says she was contacted by a number of residents and businesses in the space of a few hours.

Now she has written to the Inspector for Truro, saying she wants it ensure it is a safe place for everyone to live, work and visit.

Posting on social media, Cherilyn said: "Following the incident last night in Furniss Island, I have today written to Truro’s Police Inspector asking for a meeting to discuss crime and anti-social behaviour in the town.

"A number of residents and businesses have contacted me over the last couple of weeks about a number of issues.

"We must ensure any crime and anti-social behaviour in the city is dealt with accordingly.

"I want Truro to be a safe place for everyone to live, work and visit".
