Three new coronavirus deaths have been recorded by hospital trusts in Cornwall in the last 24 hours, according to the latest official figures.

NHS England recorded a further two deaths at hospitals run at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust.

It means a total of 113 people had died in hospitals run by the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust as of 5pm on Wednesday (January 20).

That was an increase of two compared to Tuesday, when there were 111.

It means there have been 19 deaths in the past week, up from nine the previous week.

Meanwhile, Cornwall Partnership Trust has also recorded a further death in the latest 24-hour period, according to the latest figures by NHS England.

It also shows that 36 people have died in hospital at Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm on Wednesday (January 20).

That was an increase of one compared to Tuesday, when there were 35.

It means there have been seven deaths in the past week, up from one the previous week.

It brings the total number of deaths recorded in hospitals across both trusts to 149 since the start of the pandemic.

The victims were among 3,031 deaths recorded across the South West.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states:

"Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.
