Mayor or Truro urges people to pay their respects this Remembrance Sunday
Many ceremonies and services have been cancelled due to lockdown.
The Mayor of Truro is urging people across Cornwall to pay their respects this Remembrance Sunday despite the cancellation of services and ceremonies.
Truro's parade is one of many commemorative events to have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic - with lockdown tightening restrictions even more for those that continue to go ahead.
One such event that is taking place is the Remembrance service at Truro Cathedral. This will take place in front of a small, invited congregation. It will also be live streamed on the internet so people can join in from the comfort of their own homes.
"Remembrance will not go by without it being commemorated in a appropriate way.
"We have cancelled the parade, there will be a small British Legion ceremony at 11am on Sunday 8th November but importantly, we will have a service in the Cathedral.
"We're not absolutely certain that we can do that in front of a congregation or not but we're pretty clear we can at the moment but that will be a small invited congregation only.
"Working with Three S Films in Penzance, we will be live streaming that service which will start at 3pm."
Bert Biscoe, Mayor of Truro
Due to cancellations of ceremonies across the Duchy, we're being urged to remember in our own way:
"It's the pandemic going to ask people to do something on their own which normally they're used to doing in the company of other people, but the most important thing is that people take the time to do the remembering. It's incredibly important I think.
"I hope we can all find our own ways to commemorate and remember and think. And not simply about all those people who died but also all those people who've carried the burden of surviving the conflicts that they came through, as well."
