A large mine's been taken away from a beach in Cornwall.

St Austell Coastguard says it was called out to reports of a large metal buoy on Monday 11th March by a member of the public.

When they got there, they found out it was a mine, and asked Royal Navy bomb disposal experts for advice.

Due to tide timings, the device couldn't be dealt with until the following morning, when part of the beach was cordoned off.

The Navy team also arrived, and confirmed it was a mine, but fortunately it was an inert training device, and it was taken away by van.

In a message on Facebook, St Austell Coastguard said, "We would like to thank all involved and the public for their patience and in particular the first informant who did exactly the right thing by calling us."
