Massive fire breaks out at workshop in Porthleven

People are being urged to keep their doors and windows shut

People in Porthleven are being urged to keep their doors and windows shut after a big fire broke out in the town.

Firefighters say a workshop and three garages caught alight on Saturday afternoon.

Photos show smoke and flames billowing above rooftops.

Crews from Porthleven, Helston, Tolvaddon, Penzance and Falmouth are all on the scene tackling the blaze.

Three houses have been evacuated and a 50 metre cordon remains in place.

Police say nobody is believed to have been trapped and members of the public are urged to avoid the area.

"Appliances from Helston, Mullion and two flexi-duty officers were initially mobilised to a workshop fire in Porthleven.

"On arrival the crews discovered a single storey workshop and three garages to be alight.

"14:41 - Make pumps x5 and water carrier x1

"Additional crews from Tolvaddon, Penzance and Falmouth have been mobilised. The Incident Command Unit has also been requested from St Just Community Fire Station."

"Update 17:00 Crews continue firefighting on scene. A cordon of 50 metres remains in place around the fire with three houses evacuated.

"Crews are using 3 ground monitors, one jet and two hydrants.

"Crews will remain on scene checking the temperature of the cylinders on scene until safe."

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service

"Emergency Services are currently dealing with a large fire in Wellington Place , Porthleven, Helston.

"The premises on fire is a garage and no persons are believed to be trapped. The Fire Service indicate they could be at the scene for a number of hours making it safe.

"Members of the public are asked to stay away from the area . Local residents are asked to keep doors and windows shut."
