A man has been treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns after a house fire broke out in Penzance.

Firefighters were called to New Street just before 6am on Wednesday morning (23rd February) after a fire alarm went off.

It was reported that people could have been trapped inside the property and a man was rescued by the fire crews.

The blaze was put out using a hose reel and officials say the cause was accidental.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "CFRS were called to an automatic fire alarm at a property in Penzance in the early hours of the morning.

"Control received a second call confirming that this was a residential fire with persons trapped. Crews were mobilised from St Just, St Ives and Tolvaddon.

"A male was rescued by the Service and treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns.

"The fire was extinguished using 1 hose reel 2 breathing apparatus and a triple extension ladder. Adjacent properties were checked with the thermal image camera and cleared by crews.

"The cause of the fire was accidental."
