Police issue appeal after assault in St Ives leaves man with serious injuries

An assault in St Ives left a man with serious injuries to his face and sparked an appeal from police.

Officers are asking for CCTV and dashcam footage after an incident outside The Castle in Fore Street.

They say the casualty in his 30s was punched in the face and knocked to the ground after an argument.

He was taken to hospital with a fractured cheekbone and cut to his head after it happened in the early hours of Friday 14th January.

A 20-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of assault causing GBH and has now been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are investigating an assault in St Ives which left a man with serious facial injuries.

"The incident happened outside The Castle in Fore Street between 1am and 1.15am on Friday 14 January.

"A man was punched in the face by another man following an argument.

"The victim, a man in his 30s from London, was knocked to the ground during the assault.

"He was taken to hospital and treated for a fractured cheekbone and a cut to his head.

"A 20-year-old man from St Ives has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

"Police are investigating the assault and appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

"They would also like to hear from anyone who may have relevant CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage.

"Anyone who can help with the investigation is asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or telephone 101, quoting crime reference CR/003682/22".
