A man has been rescued from a mineshaft in a Cornish town.
Emergency services were called to the scene in St Blazey yesterday (Thursday 6 July).
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Pumping appliances from St Austell and Bodmin, along with specialist line rescue teams from Bodmin and Tolvaddon responded to this incident.
"On arrival firefighters discovered a casualty who was stuck down a mineshaft.
"Line rescue equipment was used to rescue the casualty who was transferred into the care of the Ambulance Service."
Devon and Cornwall Police say he was taken to hospital by air ambulance: "Emergency services were called St Blazey late yesterday afternoon following reports of concern for a man who was in a mineshaft.
"The man was rescued and was taken to hospital by air ambulance.
"His injuries were initially thought to be serious, but this has since been downgraded."
Thomas Hennessy Jones, Critical Care Paramedic with Cornwall Air Ambulance, said: "This was a challenging incident to coordinate due to the location of the patient.
"The priority was to get them to safety as quickly as possible. Thanks to the specialist skills of all services involved we were able to extract the patient and treat them for their injuries on scene, before conveying them to the region’s major trauma centre for onward care. A great example of multi-agency teamwork."
