Police have confirmed an elderly man has died after being pulled from the sea near Newquay.

Officers say the casualty, who was in his 80s, suffered a suspected medical episode at Porth.

RNLI lifeguards, Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team, paramedics and Cornwall Air Ambulance were called on Thursday afternoon (19th August).

The RNLI says all emergency services provided casualty care but, tragically, the man could not be saved.

"The man, aged in his 80s, had been recovered from the water and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner".
