Man dies after incident on coast near Newquay

Police, coastguard rescue teams, the coastguard helicopter and the RNLI were called to Beacon Cove on Friday

A man has died following an incident on cliffs near Newquay.

Police were called to the area between Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth at around 5pm on Friday 14th May.

Coastguard teams, a rescue helicopter and RNLI crews were also called to the Beacon Cove area.

Sadly a man in his 40s, who is not from the Duchy, died at the scene.

Officers say the death is not being treated as suspicious and his family has been told.

"Police attended alongside the coastguards and coastguard helicopter and the RNLI.

"A man in his 40s, who is not from the Force area, was located at the bottom of cliffs and declared deceased at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner."

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has confirmed that it was a multi-agency incident.

"At just after 5pm on Friday 14th May, Newquay RNLI Lifeboats, Mawgan Porth RNLI Lifeguards, Newquay and Padstow Coastguard Rescue Teams, the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Newquay, South West Ambulance Service, Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) and Devon and Cornwall Police attended to an incident at Beacon Cove, Newquay."
