A man in his 70s has died following a house fire in Redruth.

Emergency services were called to Green Lane just before 9am on Tuesday morning (3rd May).

The blaze had broken out in a three-storey detached house and crews tackled it using jets.

Two people were rescued by firefighters and were taken to hospital.

It has now been confirmed that sadly a man in his 70s later died, and his family have been told.

Another man, in his 80s, currently remains in hospital.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: "Emergency services were called at 8.45am today to reports of a fire at a property in Green Lane, Redruth.

"A man in his 70s was taken to hospital where he later died. His next of kin have been informed.

"A man in his 80s was also taken to hospital where he remains. He is not believed to have sustained any serious injuries.

"Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the cause of the fire and emergency services remain at the scene."

Specialist officers are carrying out an investigation into the cause of the fire.

A Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The first of two fire appliances from Tolvaddon was in attendance within seven minutes, following a report of a fire in a three-storey detached house. One fire appliance from Truro and one fire appliance from Penzance also attended.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, used three hosereels, three safety jets and thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the fire, located on the first floor. Two people were rescued by firefighters and were left in care of ambulance crews.

"The fire was extinguished by 0925hrs and specialist officers are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire."
