Stand-off in Penzance ends with man arrested and taken to hospital

Police say the casualty in his 30s is understood to have fallen from a window

A man has been taken to hospital after reportedly falling from a window in Penzance.

Police were called to reports of aggressive behaviour, smashed windows and glass in Market Jew Street.

Trained negotiators were also scrambled on Wednesday evening, amid concerns for welfare.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of affray and criminal damage and taken to hospital.

Devon and Cornwall Police say his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

In a statement, the force said: "Police were called at 9.45pm last night (Wednesday) to Market Jew Street, Penzance, following reports of a man behaving aggressively.

"It was reported that a number of windows had been smashed and that the glass had gone onto the street.

"A concern for his welfare was reported to police and units including police negotiator attended and engaged with the man who was inside an address.

"The male was later reported to have fallen from the first floor window of the property.

"A man aged in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of affray and criminal damage.

"He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening or changing injuries, where he remains at this time".
