Man arrested on suspicion of drink driving following a serious collision in Looe

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a serious collision in Looe.

An elderly pedestrian was rushed to Derriford after the incident on Fore Street.

The 81-year-old woman suffered serious injuries on Monday lunchtime.

Anyone who saw something at around 12.55pm, or anyone with dashcam footage, is being urged to come forward.

In a statement on Tuesday, Devon & Cornwall Police confirmed a 57-year-old local man had been taken into custody.

"Police were called to reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Fore Street, Looe, at around 12.55pm on Monday 14 June.

"The collision involved a black BMW Z4 convertible and an 81-year-old female pedestrian, who sustained serious injuries.

"The occupants of the BMW were not injured.

"The pedestrian was taken to Derriford Hospital.

"Local officers, as well as officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team, attended the scene.

"A 57-year-old man from Looe was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and is currently in custody.
